Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q.

WHAT IS A TRUE HEPA FILTER VACUUM?

A.

The Letters in the word HEPA stand for High Efficiency Particulate Arrestor. A "True" HEPA Filter is also known as an ABSOLUTE Filter because of it's efficiency!

For a filter to be called a "True" HEPA, it must retain and filter out all particles from the air that passes through it down to 0.3 microns in size at an efficiency rating of 99.97%.

"True" HEPA filters are regarded as the best form of air filtration. Hospitals, laboratories, even NASA spend many thousands and even millions of dollars to create contamination free environments called "clean rooms" to help eliminate foreign particles, infectious agents, heavy metal particles, and a variety of other undesirable contaminants, including dust, dust mites, pet dander and other airborne particles that contribute to allergies and asthma.

The "True" HEPA filter is recognized by OSHA and the Environmental Protection Agency as the ULTIMATE proven filtration system to cleanse the air.

Q.

WHY DOES LOOKIN' LIKE NEW USE SO MANY CLEANING METHODS?

A.

There is a difference in the type of carpet that is being cleaned and what level can be extracted. For example; Some types of carpets tend to clean very well but sometimes have reappearing stains in the next few days after they are cleaned. Also, other types of carpeting can hold moisture so it must be cleaned using a lower water pressure psi and done over more frequently or have an air mover readily available to dry after it has been completely cleaned. Our technicians will determine the best method of cleaning to perform based on the type of carpet that you have.

Q.

CAN ALL STAINS BE REMOVED?

A.

That is the million dollar question and the difference between a happy customer and a dissatisfied one. Of course there are permanent stains that can never be removed and should be addressed by your carpet cleaning professional once he looks at it. Pet urine stains, any type of artificially colored stains and many others are nearly impossible to remove but can be lightened. The dificulty in removing 100% of every stain lie in the factors involved as far as longevity of the stain, volume and carpet color as well. Remember to inform our technician about the source of stains as this will help to determine what steps to take to be the most effective in removing the stain.

Q.

ARE CARPET CLEANING CHEMICALS HARMFUL TO MY CHILDREN OR PETS?

A.

Lookin' Like New uses natural cleaning solutions that are not harmful to children or pets. These cleaning solutions may be a little more expensive to use, however they are not as hazardous as the chemicals that some of the lower priced carpet cleaners use.

Q.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN TRUCK MOUNT AND PORTABLE CLEANING EQUIPMENT?

A.

The portable equipment that Lookin' Like New uses is technologically designed to perform as well as a truck mount system. A truck mount system can only perform ONE method of cleaning. WATER INJECTION AND EXTRACTION. Lookin' Like New maintains the option of using many different methods of cleaning based on the type of carpet and upholstery that you have.

Q.

HOW MUCH BETTER CAN A PROFESSIONAL CLEAN MY CARPETS AND UPHOLSTERY THAN DOING IT MYSELF?

A.

There is a HUGE difference in the equipment and type of chemical being used when cleaning carpets. There is nothing on the consumer level that can give you the type of cleaning power you need. Then there is the experience factor that only someone in the business can provide to give you the quality of cleaning you need.

Q.

HOW SOON CAN I WALK ON THE CARPET?

A.

Try to keep pets, children and heavy traffic off the carpet during the drying process. It is best to wear socks or slippers if walking on the carpet while it is still damp. Wait 24 hours before removing foam blocks or protective tabs that our technicians have placed under the furniture to protect the carpet. Carpet will be safe to walk on in anywhere between 1 to 4 hours depending on which cleaning method we use. Some carpets may feel slightly damp for a while longer depending on the carpet and soil conditions. This is normal and will not cause any problems.

Q.

DO YOU MOVE FURNITURE?

A.

All of our packages include moving some necessary furniture in the main living area at no additional charge. Beds, dressers, and heavier pieces are left in place under these pricing structures. Additional charges will apply to move heavier furniture. For liability reasons, we do not move china hutches, entertainment systems, pianos, aquariums or other valuable belongings.

Q.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I HAVE MY CARPET CLEANED?

A.

Many of the major carpet mills today recommend professional cleaning at least once per year. The build up of soil in your carpet in combination with foot traffic creates abrasion that breaks down your carpet's fibers. The higher the traffic in a given area, the more often the carpet will need cleaning. Professional cleaning does not replace the weekly maintenance that you, the home owner should undertake, but it is essential for weekly maintenance/vacuuming to remain effective.

Q.

CAN YOU GET THE PET ODOR OUT OF MY CARPET?

A.

Pet odor is a very common problem that could be much more complex than on first impression. Pet urine can easily soak through the backing of the carpet into the padding underneath. In more severe cases the urine can penetrate into the sub-floor beneath the padding. This creates a problem that is multi-layered. The urine also provides for the growth of bacteria. This in turn contributes to a worsening of the odor problem and can contribute to permanent color loss of the carpet fiber. To eliminate this problem, the urine must be removed or neutralized from each of the layers affected. If the contamination is limited to only the face yarn of the carpet then the cleaning itself may effectively remove the odor. In more severe cases a urine neutralizer may be applied. In the most severe cases, replacement of the carpet padding, treatment of the under-side of the carpet and the sub-floor may be required. Even replacement of the carpet, however, can not guarantee complete removal of the odor. Our odor enzyme neutralizers have been very effective in removing odor causing bacteria.
